CLAN appeal passes milestone

The local CLAN 1,2,3 Appeal has now broken the £300,000 barrier.

With less than three months to go before the end of the local appeal, which will last a year in total, a milestone has been reached with £306,117 in the bank.

Chairwoman Elaine Jamieson said the CLAN committee committee said: “It is has clearly been a huge community effort including some very poignant and personal individual contributions. A number of surprise birthday parties have astonished the CLAN committee with their generosity.”

Other recent successful events, apart from the hugely popular Strictly CLAN Dancing, have been an auction at the Cunningsburgh Hall, a Skool Disco organised by friends in the British Legion, a disco in Aith and Sunday teas, and a sale at Bridge End Hall, all of which brought in over £2000.

Mrs Jamieson said: “It has been great seeing how groups have come up with fundraising ideas and had a good time raising money for this worthwhile cause.

“It is clear that CLAN is close to many people’s hearts. We are really overwhelmed by the support we have received.”

She also said the committee was very grateful for the “fantastic” contribution of £25,000 promised this week by NHS Shetland.
