Yachts arrive from all over

A vast influx of around 100 yachts has been the main feature of Lerwick Harbour this week.

Although most of them came from Bergen, others arrived from the UK and from sea voyages. The British Arctic Tern, an ex-ocean racing yacht, is one of the most recent arrivals.

Apart from that the harbour has been busy with other traffic. The cruise ship Athena arrived at the end of last week and went to Reykjavik, and was followed on Tuesday by the smaller Bahamian Clipper Adventurer. Two more cruise ships arrived today – the Marco Polo and Black Prince. Oil-related work has been steady, with regular visitors the Grampian Crusader, Vos Sentinel, Up Esmeralda, Ocean Observer and Seven Pelican coming into the Greenhead Base. The chase boat Thor Provider came to Holmsgarth on Monday.

On Tuesday the tanker Border Heather anchored south of the harbour, and on the same day the Bressay ferry Leirna came back into service.

The harbour boat Knab has been busy with jobs outside the harbour limits with the Petroatlantic and Tordis Knutsen. The fishery protection vessel Hirta tied up at Holmsgarth on Wednesday, while the Jura, another fishery protection boat, was also in Shetland but stayed outside the harbour limits.
