Olympia triumph for Arianne and her Uriebell

Whalsay horse rider Arianne Fraser and Clothie Uriebell recently returned from competing at the London International Horse Show at Olympia. A very busy week of racing culminated in a win in the final race on the Monday evening.

Competition was fierce with the pair achieving several good results during the week, but to be victorious in the final race on the final night was the icing on the cake. This was made even more special by the fact that this was Urie’s last ever race at Olympia as at almost 20 years of age the rules state he must retire.

For the pair, having made it to the finals of the Grand National at Olympia for the last three years has been quite an achievement. Each season they have had to compete against 50-60 other combinations for one of the 10 prized places at Olympia, and have be the only Scottish representatives.

Arianne also took the opportunity to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and handed over a grand total of £350 to the organisers at Olympia. Huge thanks to everyone who donated so generously for such a worthwhile cause.

The pair are now looking forward to the new season, which is fast approaching, and will no doubt continue to have much fun and success. Along with other Shetland jockeys, Arianne is aiming to continue with her racing by taking her young pony Clothie Night Idiot, who is owned by the Clothie Stud, to Royal Windsor in May which will be an interesting time as he is completely new to racing.

Arianne would like to thank everyone that supported and sponsored them, enabling them to compete at this level in their sport, without whom none of their success would have been possible. In particular Arianne would like to thank NorthLink Ferries, Whalsay Boating Club, JWJ (Whalsay) Ltd, Calum Younger Reach Fund, Kinaldie Farm, SIC sport and leisure service, Broothom Ponies and all her family and friends. Special mention must go to Shetland Catch Ltd for its very generous sponsorship and support.
