Shooters strike gold at Faroe competition
Clay shooters John Magnus Laurenson and Ross Work travelled to Faroe on the charter flight to compete in an Olympic Skeet (OSK) and Automatic Ball Trap (ABT) competition.
The competition was last shot in the early 1990s. Due to other commitments a full squad could not be put together, leaving the pair shooting as a team of two against 10 Faroese shooters.
The competition was held on Saturday in strong winds and was shot on two different grounds. The OSK was shot in the morning and consisted of 75 targets shot in three rounds. It was won by a Faroe shooter with Laurenson taking second place.
The ABT was also shot over three rounds on the ground that was used for the 1989 island games. The targets were described as very testing and the requirement to use steel shot resulted in lower scores than would be expected. The Shetland pair faired well against the locals with Laurenson taking first place and Work third.
The overall trophy for the best team of two was won by Shetland by a narrow margin of two points with Laurenson taking the gold medal in the ABT and the silver in the OSK while Work took the bronze in the ABT.
