Pioneering DJ to make isles debut
ONE of the UK’s most influential and pioneering techno house DJs is to play his first show in Shetland next weekend.
Justin Robertson will be manning the decks at Posers Nightclub on Saturday, 19th July.
There can be few DJs who have had more labels than Justin Robertson. First he was Balearic and then hard house, while some areas of the music press hailed him as the pioneer of big beat. In truth Robertson is probably all of these.
He began DJ-ing in the late 1980s after moving to Manchester to study philosophy. At this time the Hacienda was at its peak and acid house was taking the UK music scene by storm.
It wasn’t long before Robertson was organising some of the biggest parties in Manchester, DJ-ing from his extensive collection of records and with fledgling names like Sasha and the Chemical Brothers in attendance.
Since then he has gone on to DJ around the world and was a prominent artist at the legendary Cream nightclub in Liverpool during the 1990s.
He is also an acclaimed recording artist with his most prominent release being An Instinct for Detection, a sought after producer and has remixed artists as diverse as the Stone Roses, Bjork and Felix Da Housecat.
Tickets are on sale now from the Grand Hotel at £8, otherwise admission is £10 at the door.
