Diver rescued by coastguard
A DIVER had to be rescued by Shetland Coastguard after falling unconscious while exploring the wreck of a German warship in Scapa Flow on Sunday.
A helicopter was scrambled to Orkney at around 11am and the man, who had been diving around the Karlsruhe – one of the German navy’s high seas fleet which was scuttled in 1919 – was taken ashore and transferred to hospital. Four years ago a man and a woman died in a diving accident after getting into difficulties on the same wreck.
At around 2.50pm on Friday, the coastguard was also asked to send down a helicopter to Orkney to assist with a woman who had fallen off a horse. She was also taken to hospital.
