Men in custody after drugs seizures
TWO men are in custody after drugs seizures at the weekend.
On Friday a 34-year-old man was detained by police at Holmsgarth as he arrived in Lerwick off the NorthLink ferry from Aberdeen with a quantity of suspected heroin. The man remains in police custody and a report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
On Sunday a house in the Ladies Drive area of Lerwick was searched by police and police drugs dog Joey.
They found a quantity of heroin, cocaine and cannabis with an estimated street value of £8,000. The 32-year-old householder was arrested and remains in police custody. A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
During the same day police searched a house in Gilbertson Road assisted by drugs dog Joey. A quantity of suspected heroin was seized during the search and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
Meanwhile police seized a “substantial” quantity of alcohol from youths under the age of 18 travelling on the Yell ferry on Friday evening. The youths were heading to Yell to attend an event being held at Mid Yell Hall.
And on Saturday police seized alcohol from underage youths near the Viking bus station in Lerwick.
Police say underage alcohol misuse is a real concern in Shetland, and wish to remind people it is an offence to buy and supply alcohol for use by people under the age of 18.
