Horse enthusiasts rewarded for last year’s achievement
Dunrossness Riding Club (DRC) and the Shetland Pony Riding & Driving Group (SPRDG) had a successful year in 2008 which was recognised in their annual awards party on Sunday.
Through weekly lessons all the club members’ riding and horse care skills have improved and they have been rewarded with the presentation of certificates. In addition to this a trophy was presented to the most improved rider which was won this year by Megan Leslie.
During the summer members had a chance to compete at various shows throughout Shetland and their results were added up to work out overall performance for the year and determine winners.
As well as Shetland shows, members of SPRDG were lucky enough to compete in shows all over the UK and pony riders’ results from all shows were entered in the national Shetland pony performance awards, a scheme ranking the performance of Shetland ponies and riders from all around the UK. Riders are limited to the number of shows they can take part in outside of Shetland given the distance they must travel. However, the results they have achieved in spite of this are impressive.
Both DRC and SPRDG would like to thank parents, helpers and sponsors for their continued support without which the groups would not be able to operate.
