Ferry to Aberdeen cancelled and northbound service delayed

Due to yet another forecast of severe weather conditions, Wednesday night’s scheduled sailing of the Hjaltland from Lerwick to Aberdeen via Orkney has been cancelled.

The departure of the Hrossey from Aberdeen will be delayed beyond the normal 7pm sailing time, although passengers and vehicles should check in at the normal time. It is estimated that she will arrive in Shetland at 2pm on Thursday.

The next available update will be tomorrow at 7.30am. For more information call NorthLink on 0845 6000 449.

Meanwhile, despite the wild weather most inter-island ferries were running as scheduled on Wednesday.

One crossing had to be abandoned by the Whalsay ferry but the service continued to run as normal in the afternoon.

The Bluemull Sound service was the only ferry badly affected. It made only one crossing in the afternoon and the crew were keeping the situation under review.
