Friends to stage sponsored walk for stroke and cancer charities

Two Lerwick women will be undertaking a sponsored walk on Wednesday in aid of stroke and cancer charities.

Maureen MacLeod, whose husband suffered a stroke 15 years ago, decided to do the 10-mile walk to help Shetland Stroke Support Group which needs funds for summer bus trips and events such as film shows. Money raised from the walk will also be given to the CLAN 1,2,3 appeal.

Mrs MacLeod, 64, and her friend June Morrison will set off from Grantfield Garage at 10am. Their route will take them up past Jim’s Garage to Brig o’ Fitch, and then through the Black Gaet and back into Lerwick. They expect their walk to take around three hours and hope to have lunch at Clickimin.

• Anyone wanting to sponsor the walk can phone Mrs MacLeod on (01595) 695118.
