Two Shetland fencers struck gold at the Glasgow Open competition at the weekend.

Stephen Rocks won the men’s sabre event on Saturday, beating last year’s champion and a medal-winning member of the Scottish Commonwealth team. His progress through the competition was seamless and he dominated the field.

Meanwhile Kyle Smith, 17, won the gold medal in the secondary foil on Sunday, also totally dominating the opposition. It was his first senior trophy.
