Big Scottish District Cup test for Shetland hockey team
The Shetland women’s hockey team heads to Aberdeen this weekend to play against Kinross Ladies in the last 16 of the Scottish District Cup.
The match takes place at the Aberdeen Sports Village at noon on Sunday. It is the biggest test the Shetland team has come across in the competition so far, with Kinross having a very good season so far in their league.
Coach Peter Sharp said the squad members hoped that all their hard work during the new year would have them in good condition to face Kinross and give them a really good game.
Sharp said the players would like to thank everyone who came up to Brae to play them in some horrendous weather some nights, in preperation for Sunday’s game. He also thanked sponsors DITT and NorthLink for continued support through the competition.
The players travelling away for the game are: Maggie Irvine (captain), Maree Simpson, Dianne Shearer and Catherine Williamson (all Whalsay); Jillian Copland (vice-captain), Nicola Blance, Toni Sidgwick and Donna Murray (all Delting); Kristan Robertson, Stacey Laurenson, Debbie Sneddon and Josie Jamieson (all Burra); Emma Inkster (Spurs); Michaela Johnson and Karis Irvine (both Scalloway).
Anyone in the Aberdeen area is encourged to go along and help cheer the team on.
