Whalsay through to Highland Fuels final

Whalsay are through to the final of the Highlands Fuels Cup, the warm-up to the main senior outdoor football season, after beating Scalloway 6-2 last night at Harbison Park.

James Shearer bagged a hat-trick for the winners with Allister Johnson getting two, one from the penalty spot, and Stuart Shearer also finding the net. Scalloway replied through Scott Henderson and a Robert Garrick penalty.

Scalloway had made it through to the semi-finals after defeating Thistle last Thursday. After a 2-2 draw, with Calvin Leask scoring twice for Thistle and Kevin Sinclair and Robert Garrick replying for Scalloway, the villagers triumphed 6-5 on penalties.

The second semi-final, between Spurs and Whitedale, is due to be played on Thursday night. The winners will face Whalsay in next Monday’s final.
