Delting beat Spurs in Madrid Cup as senior football season begins in earnest

Senior football finally got started on Monday night with a defeat for holders Spurs in the first round of the Madrid Cup. Friday evening’s league matches had all been postponed due to the weather.

Spurs were starting the tournament with good pre-season form having won the Highland Fuels Cup but two goals from Delting’s Robert Balfour secured a good win for the north men.

Whalsay enjoyed a fairly comfortable 6-1 victory at home against Scalloway. They took the lead through a Marcus Pitt own goal and further strikes came from Stuart Shearer (2), James Shearer (2) and Colin Anderson. Scalloway replied through Scott Henderson.

The Celtic v Whitedale match was postponed.
