Shetland Select victorious in annual Laurenson Cup match as football season begins

The senior Shetland football season began on Friday evening with victory for a Shetland Select over Spurs in the Laurenson Cup at Gilbertson Park.

The annual match, played annually between the previous season’s champions and a county side made up of players from all the other teams, saw the Shetland side win 3-0 with goals from Leighton Flaws, Scott Henderson and an own goal.

The Madrid Cup starts tonight with Thistle taking on Whitedale at Gilbertson Park while Whalsay face Delting at Harbison Park tomorrow evening.
