Andrea’s hat trick of medals

Lerwick swimmer Andrea Strachan won three medals at the British University Championships (BUCs) in Sheffield at the weekend.

She took part in four events – the 50m and 100m breaststroke, the 50m freestyle and the 400m medley relay.

On Saturday morning Strachan qualified for the finals of the 50m breaststroke in third place and the 50m freestyle in ninth position.

In the evening finals she improved her position to finish second in the breaststroke, claiming the silver medal, and was eighth in the freestyle.

On Sunday Strachan qualified for the 100m breaststroke final in seventh place but produced a good improvement in the afternoon’s final to claim third spot and the bronze medal.

She was also part of the Edinburgh University 400m medley relay team which won the bronze medal.

Strachan is competing in the Berlin International Swim Meet with the Edinburgh team this weekend as part of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games qualifiers in Glasgow at the beginning of April.
