Hockey team through to semis

The Shetland hockey team are through to the last four of the Scottish District Cup, following an excellent victory over AAM Merlin’s Gordonians in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

The Shetland players started amazingly well and took the lead in the first minute through Stacey Laurenson.

Merlins were given no time to settle and a purple patch starting in the 19th minute effectively settled the outcome.

A well-worked corner was struck at goal with the Merlins keeper doing well to block. However, Kristan Robertson was fastest to the rebound and flicked it past the goalie.

Merlins restarted and again Shetland were on top of them and a minute later Maree Simpson scored to make it 3-0.

Merlins hit back in the second half through Jen Heritage but Shetland had the last say when Karis Irvine smashed the backboard to finish the match at 4-1.

The semi-final match will be played on Sunday 11th May in Aberdeen Sports Village with the draw being made shortly.
