Hjaltland to call at Kirkwall for junior inter-county competitors

NorthLink Ferries has scheduled additional Kirkwall calls for this year’s junior inter-county in Shetland on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June.

The 7pm sailing from Aberdeen to Lerwick on Friday 19th June will depart one hour earlier than timetabled and will call at Kirkwall at midnight, allowing Orkney athletes and supporters to travel to Shetland ahead of the weekend of sport.

The return southbound 7pm sailing from Lerwick to Aberdeen on Sunday 21st June will also call into Kirkwall at midnight.

NorthLink customer care manager James Linklater said: “The junior inter-county competition is a key event in the calendar for both Orkney and Shetland so we are keen for as many competitors and spectators to enjoy the event, with the additional sailings this will be possible.

“We’re delighted to be accommodating those travelling with us to Shetland and wish both teams the best of luck in this year’s competition.”

The annual event will see over 200 young athletes from Orkney and Shetland compete in a series of sports including netball, swimming, athletics, hockey and football for the coveted Stuart Cup.

The junior inter-county teams are just two of the many supported by NorthLink Ferries’ sponsorship programme, which helps a wide range of community groups, schools and individuals as they travel to and from Orkney and Shetland.
