Choral Society in full voice

Lerwick Choral Society was in full tune at its Christmas concert held in St Columba’s Church at Lerwick on Friday night.

Well-known carols were performed, along with other songs that are perhaps less familiar.

Conductor Peter Davis said it was important to mix new with old. Speaking ahead of the event, he said the choir would be performing things that “go down well”, but would not shy away from new material, either.

“This year we have had a theme on Europe, and I’ve been finding some music that is new to me as well. We owe European Christmas music a great debt, because a lot of our carols have originated in Poland, in Germany, in France, and I’ve brought a few of them out for this concert.”
