North Boats delayed

Winds gusting up to 60mph have played havoc with the North Boats schedules once again.

The NorthLink ferry Hjaltland, due to arrive in Lerwick this morning, is still in Orkney. She has been sheltering in Kirkwall bay and is due to dock at Hatston shortly.

She will then sail to Lerwick, with the time of arrival estimated to be in the evening.

The departure time of 7pm will be delayed.

The ferry Hrossey, which arrived in Aberdeen at 4.30am, is scheduled to sail direct to Lerwick tonight at 5pm without calling at Kirkwall.

Freight sailings are also being disrupted.

According to Lerwick Observatory, the easterly severe gale with sleet has produced a wind chill factor of minus 16 Celsius.
