Moorfield Hotel owners confirm full investigation to be held into devastating fire

The company which runs the fire-stricken Moorfield Hotel in Brae has paid tribute to the emergency services for their response – and pledged to carry out a full investigation.

BDL director Stuart McCaffer said he was “shocked” by what had happened and was arranging to fly up to Shetland as soon as possible.

The hotel went up in flames in the early hours of this morning and has been left badly damaged

Mr McCaffer said there were 70 people in the building at the time and everyone was quickly and safely evacuated and moved to Sella Ness.

“Thankfully all of our guests and staff escaped safely from the building,” he added.

“There will be a full investigation to identify the cause but it would appear that the fire safety systems have worked to early identify the outbreak of fire and evacuate the hotel.

“We are very grateful to the fire fighters for their response”
